Townes Van Zandt: Live At The Old Quarter (Colored Vinyl) Vinyl 2LP
Mid-70s live album from Fort Worth's Townes Van Zandt. Live At The Old Quarter was originally recorded during a series of live performances in 1973 at Houston's Old Quarter on a portable four track by Earl Willis. The intimate setting barely fit 100 people, but allowed for some of the best recordings of Van Zandt to be put to tape. He shows some of his influences in covers of Bo Diddley, Texas bluesman Lightnin' Hopkins, and country picker Merle Travis. The recordings are peppered with Van Zandt's corny jokes and stage banter, further adding to the intimacy. Twenty-seven tracks in all. Released by Fat Possum Records on double Coke bottle green vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve with a digital download.
