The United States of America: The United States Of America (Mono) Vinyl LP (Record Store Day)

I can't believe it's not British. Yup! This short-lived psych outfit from L.A. is often cited as the main inspiration for the sound of Broadcast, andĀ it's ripe for re-experiencing in the current vacuum of psych-pop brilliance left by Trish Kennan’s tragic passing a few years back. The United States Of America's lone self-titled album from 1968 has seen a few well-packaged reissues in recent years, but none containing these super rare mono versions which have been out of print on vinyl for nearly 50 years. And no self-respecting psych nerd would dare listen to a stereo recording. Check out "Cloud Song," "Coming Down," "The American Metaphysical Circus." Center label reads 'Demonstration - Radio Station Copy' for added kitsch. Turn on, tune in & drop out.Ā
