The Grips: Tennessee Strut / Fancy Roll 7"
Reissue of the first ever GED Soul release from 2007/08. The Grips would later become the band for DeRobert & The Half-Truths, but before that happened, they released this jewel. I'm skipping straight to the b-side (B-Side Wins Again! - don't get to say that too often anymore) for "Fancy Roll." This sky-level track sounds like a Pete Rock interlude complete with clack-clack snares. "Tennessee Strut" is no snoozer either with a sound that would have caused an Ebay hysteria back in early 2000. Recorded on 1/4" tape for that extra depth. Recommended.
