The Art Department: The Drawing Board 2LP

Art Department, the duo of Toronto club dudes Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow, made their break with 2010's "Without You". You'd figure they'd be hard pressed to come up with an albums worth of tracks that could meet such a classic tune. Well they've done a pretty darn good job of working within that template and not beating it to death. Along the way they get a little help from Seth Troxler, Soul Clap and Osunlade. And if you're into contemporary sounds applied to the classic house template you are going to be feeling this. They could easily have released each and everyone one of these tunes as singles. The tracks are just that good. There is just enough variation here to make the familiar seem unfamiliar. Nothing is piled on too much either. You can tell that there really are no aspirations towards any top 40 action with Art Department. These are jams strictly for the club and the club only. Recommended.
