Debut studio album from Durham, North Carolina's Sylvan Esso. Their eponymous debut might come as a surprise to anyone who was a fan of either Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn's previous work. Their sound combines Meath's soulful croon, which she honed as a member of Appalachian indie folk trio Mountain Man, and Sanborn's electronics, which we last heard coming from country-psych rockers Megafaun. It's club ready electronic music for the indie folk set, equally comfortable at the cafe and on the dance floor. Soulful and sweet with a slightly elusive sensibility.
