It can be argued that Bjork hit her artistic peak on The Sugarcubes' debut album. Yeah, Debut, Post, Homogenic, all pretty incredible... however, can you find a moment in that triplet half as unique and emotive as "Birthday?" The growling pixie chorus became her indelible stampĀ when this album dropped back in 1988. So many incredible Bjork moments throughout the albumĀ (interspersed amongst protagonist Einar's Ice-jabbings), her pure emotion breaks through like machine gun bullets cutting through Bangkok smog. Highly recommended.
