Polica: When We Stay (180g, Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP
PoliƧa is an American synth-pop band from Minneapolis, MN formed in 2011. They self-released their debut album Give You The Ghost on Valentines Day 2012, shortly after they attended SXSW and scored an opening spot for Bon Iver, helping to gainĀ the attention of Mom + Pop, who reissued their debut in addition to 2013ās Shulamith, 2016ās United Crushers, and 2018ās Music For The Long Emergency. 2018 was a difficult year for frontwoman Channy Leaneagh, beginning the year with an accident leading to smashed vertebrae, leaving her with limited mobility for months. Her self-identity became attached to her experiences of physical and mental trauma, and she began to consider what it would be like to live without the past as a burden. Ā āI felt there were many things I could look at and say, āThis happened to me but Iām okay now. Itās not happening anymore and I got the care I needed for it. Now itās time to rewrite the story I tell about myself and to myself.ā She approaches her journey with unflinching honesty, her processed vocals suiting the synthesized backdrops. āDrivingā is sharp snares and restrained sub-bass, āTataā is expansive beats and up-front vocals. āForget Me Nowā harkens back to the groupās earlier records, reverberating percussion and warm acoustic tones.
