Analog Fluids of Sonic Black Holes is the new album by Philadelphia-based artist, poet, and musician, Camae Ayewa, who performs under the name Moor Mother. Her debut Fetish Bones arrived in 2016, right on the cusp of our current political hellscape, which seems to only get worse. The title of the album is explained thusly, āA black hole is āblackā because nothing can escape it, not even light. A sonic black hole is fluid moving so fast that it traps sound -- a perfect metaphor for the feeling of struggle against an unjust system. Analog fluids are the workers within the darkness of these black holes -- individuals who strive to make things work in the face of cosmic pressures.ā At once noisy, chaotic yet grounded and authentic, this record affirms Moor Motherās punk roots while looking towards the future. Saul Williams and Philly rapper Reef the Lost Cause supply guest verses, production assistance is provided by King Britt, Mental Jewelry, and Giant Swan. āRepeaterā starts the disc on a relatively abstract tip, snaking horns and a drop that never comes. āAfter Imagesā starts with jittery electronics and scattered voices that set the stage for a pounding 4/4 banger. āCold Casesā is sub-bass and foreboding vocal samples that suits the serious message of the track. This album is pressed on limited edition gray vinyl and includes a printed insert. Highly recommended.
