Johnny Hammond: Gears (180g, Jazz Dispensary Top Shelf) Vinyl LP

Johnny Hammond's 1975 album Gears continues to prove that it was a dance music prophecy. Rarely does an album achieve classic status across several genres (funk, disco, early house), and every time I go back to it, the more relevant it sounds. Tracks like "Shifting Gears," "Los Conquistadores Chocolates," "Tell Me What To Do," "Can't We Smile," "Lost on 23rd Street" and "Fantasy" became prominent record nerdus cuts, which were notable because they never really went out of style during taste shifts. Rather, they seem to evolve with our tastes (doesn't it sound so now?). Recommended.
