James Mason has been big with diggers for years.Ā Original copies ofĀ Rhythm Of LifeĀ tend to go for astronomical prices and with good reason. First released in 1977, the album is a masterpiece of soulful jazz funk that gave birth to a few early disco classics.Ā MasonĀ was a keyboard player and song writer that worked withĀ Roy Ayers, amongst other musicians. A few Ayers associates are featured onĀ Rhythm Of Life,Ā Justo AlmarioĀ on saxophone andĀ Philip WooĀ on piano, along with a youngĀ Narada Michael WaldenĀ who adds some excellent drums to the record. For this essential Dynamite Cuts version, some highlights from the album are pressed onĀ two 7"s: check out the hard-driving uptempo groove of "I've Got My Eyes On You" featuring amazing vocals from Clarice Taylor," and "Silk City," a slick down-tempo soul killer that's never been commercially released as a 45 until now. In addition, two very rare versions of the most-in-demand tracks are included: the mega rare promo versions of "Sweet Power" as well as "Free," which is a different mix from the LP cut. Recommended.Ā
