Holy Ghost!: Crime Cutz Vinyl 12"
TheĀ golden boys of new disco are back!Ā After laying low for a coupleĀ years, Alex Frankel and Nick Millhiser returnĀ as Holy Ghost! to deliver more of thatĀ disco pop goodness on DFA. The two lifelong New YorkersĀ are well versed in what makes a greatĀ dance tune, but what's even more impressive is the fact they do their own vocals (hooks for daaays) and craft songs that can go well on theĀ dance floor and beyond. Case in point with the 12" opener andĀ title track "Crime Cutz" that sets the tone with some lush ambience before breaking into a poppin' synth disco groove. The heat continues with theĀ Billy Jean-esque "Stereotype" with those epic chords and shuffling triplet bounce, while "Compass Point" puts more emphasis on the funk with a wicked bassline and rhythm I'm guessing was inspired by early 80'sĀ work of the NassauĀ studio of the same name (thinkĀ Grace Jones, Sly & Robbie, etc). Finally, "Footstep" closes it out with that signature HG!Ā synth pop vibeĀ we all know and love. Pic sleeve cover.
