Donald Byrd: Think Twice (Import) Vinyl 12"

Donald Byrd: Think Twice (Import) Vinyl 12"

2 supremely soulful cuts from Blue Note's premiere trumpeteer together on 12" for the first time. Side A is the soulful classic "Think Twice" featuring vocals by Kay Haith (did she ever do anything else?), famously covered to great effect by J Dilla on his underrated Welcome 2 Detroit album. Taken from Donald Byrd's Stepping Into Tomorrow album, produced and recorded in collaboration with Larry and Fonce Mizell who transformed Byrd's sound (and jazz) in the mid 70s. Side B "Where Are We Going?" comes from Byrd's prior collaboration with the Mizell Brothers, Black Byrd from 1973. Have not heard this one in ages and now I'm gassed the F up. In the UK they call this "jazz dance" and there was a whole scene built around it. Limited import pressed nice and loud at 45, recommended.

  • black 12" vinyl pressing
  • plays at 45 RPM
  • original release year: 1975
  • music label: Major Keys 2025
