Don Blackman: Just Can't Stay Away Vinyl 7"
āMy friend Alex and I were driving through the desert in California and this tune came on on a playlist heād made,ā explains Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points, Melodies International label honcho. āIād never heard it before - sounded like Don Blackman⦠it was Don Blackman! A CD only release from the early 00s. Fast forward a week later, and Iām DJing at Panorama festival in NYC⦠I played this track, and, out of nowhere, bounding to the front of the stage were a brother and sister duo screaming āthis is our dad!ā Well thatās how this all started!!ā If you were Shepherd, how could you not reissue this tune after an experience like that? Itās up there with any of Blackmanās best work, and better than anything Iāve heard on Melodies International in a while. Also shout to Blackmanās kids, they seem sick as hell. Remastered and cut in both stereo and mono for this 7ā release, housed in die-cut company sleeve with an admittedly neat 14ā foldout poster. Recommended.
