Almighty & Insane Books: Beyond Heaven Vol. II - Chicago House Party Flyers from 1981-92 Book
Can you feel it??? Part Deux of Almighty & Insane Booksâ essential tome of Chicago House party flyers, Beyond Heaven. Brandon Johnson put together the first volume with the help of Chicago DJ Mario âLiv It Upâ Luna who had amassed a treasure trove of party flyers, posters and other related ephemera while living in Chicagoâs Pilsen neighborhood from 1983 to 1989. This new volume stretches even further into house history dating back to 1981 all the way up to 1992, with 96 full color pages containing all new flyers from Luna's archive documenting the city's early mobile discos, club nights and nascent rave scene taking shape on Chicagoâs north, south and west sides. Although we were most certainly not there, we canât help but get misty-eyed flipping through this book and seeing the names of certified house music royalty like Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Armando, Gene Hunt and Lil Louis given modest billings alongside hundreds and hundreds of others we donât recognize but wish we did. Plus weâre suckers for this era of graphic design: gradients, illustrations, letraset type and hand-drawn city skylines. Never a dull moment in this book, Chicago house fanatics needn't think twice. Recommended!
