Africaine 808: Basar Vinyl 2LP
Berlin electronic dance project consisting of Dirk Leyers and DJ Nomad, AFRICANE 808 tackles rhythms from all corners of the globe with the TR-808, aka the group’s “third and only female member.” Basar is the duo’s 3rd release on New York’s Golf Channel (first LP), and from the bossa-nova-flavored opener “Awakening” to the gospel-drenched closer “The Lord is a Woman,” the album adheres strictly to AFRICANE 808’s “no rules, no bullshit, all styles” manifesto. The 12-tracker also tangos with West African, Indian, Island-funk, and Latin flavors, and it’s important to note that almost all tracks are DJ/dancefloor friendly with pulsating bass, punchy kicks, and shuffling rhythmic layers.
